“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”

– Mark Twain

Unless you can take an ostrich approach to life, it is impossible to not take in some news or social media post at least once during the day. That news is usually filled with images and words constantly reminding us of how divided our country is, how much tragedy there is in the world, and how mean and selfish we apparently have all become. The word and very act of kindness seems to be a victim of the cancel culture movement as well. I don’t believe that is true but unfortunately it’s just not reported or promoted. Try this: counter the negative with kindness. Neighbor annoying you? Is your boss incorrigible? Did someone (spouse, friend, family member, church, server, teller, acquaintance) slight you? Try kindness and understanding. There are times to draw a line in the sand, stand up for your rights, and resist being a door mat, but there are also times when simple kindness can counter a world saturated in depressing, mind-numbing news. It takes courage to be kind.
